Cullercoats to Tynemouth

Yesterday we went for a day out on the Tyne and Wear Metro to Cullercoats, walked along the coast to Tynemouth and then came back home again.

We are lucky enough to receive free travel on the Metro due to my husband being a bus driver but alternatively you can get a free Pop card which entitles you to £2 one way travel or £4 all day. Up to three kids aged 11 and under can travel for free on Metro and the Shields Ferry, all day, every day when accompanied by a fare-paying adult.

We would normally get off the Metro at Whitley Bay and walk along the sea front to Tynemouth but unfortunately the station is closed due to the recent high winds. Cullercoats and Tynemouth metro stations are only 5 minute walks to the sea front.
There are lots of things to do in Tynemouth but one of my favourite is Tynemouth Park. The park consists of Lost World adventure golf, Jungle Wipeout and Pirate Quest interactive maze. They currently have a February day pass offer from only £10pp where you can access all 3 attractions. There is also a lovely little cafe on site called The Greenhouse which serves fish & chips and ice cream, among other things.

My kids love nothing more than a trip on the Metro and a walk along the coast. Not only does it cost so little but the sea air tires them out.
