The Clifton Cafe

Today myself, my Sister and our Mam went for afternoon tea at The Clifton Cafe in South Shields to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The award winning cafe is a bed and breakfast housing 18 rooms and is in the perfect location on Ocean Road, 300m from the Coast and 500m from the town centre.

The place is absolutely beautiful inside and out. They have a separate room to the cafe for afternoon tea. They also have a room that can be hired for parties or gatherings, also providing a buffet.

The afternoon tea is very popular and the place was packed when we got there. Obviously even more so with it being Mother’s Day weekend.

The food was absolutely beautiful. It was served all together on the same stand and there was one of each item for everyone. We were offered tea or coffee which was unlimited refills. The coffee was lovely.

We had 4 different types of sandwiches, tuna mayo & cucumber, egg mayo & cress, ham & peas pudding and chicken & bacon. The bread was half brown and half white which is visually appealing.

There was salmon and cream cheese on an edible spoon, which we thought was very clever. There was also a mini vegetable quiche.

If you have a sweet tooth then you are in for a treat as there are 2 layers of sweet treats. Fruit scone with jam & cream, strawberry trifle and chocolate cake to name but a few.

This is priced at £18.95pp which I think is reasonable and you definitely get your money’s worth.

The staff are very friendly and are always on hand to ensure all of your needs are met. We couldn’t have asked for better service or a better experience.

I would highly recommend this place for afternoon tea and I can’t wait to come back soon to try the main menu.
